Our Volunteering Services

Helping Hands

Volunteers help individuals who have experienced domestic abuse through offering practical and emotional 1:1 support. This can be through joining them as they go to appointments and court visits as well as signposting service-users to other services that can provide further help.

Independent Visiting

This service has volunteers working with children and young people who are in the care system up until the age of 18. They build trusting and long-term relationships through taking part in a wide variety of positive activities that are fun for both the child in care and their Independent Visitor.

What’s required to become a Volunteer with Jigsaw4u?

With our volunteers working directly with the young people and families that we support; we ensure that our selection process is thorough and extensive for the protection of our service-users and prospective volunteers.

Prospective volunteers must complete an application form which is then reviewed by our Volunteer Coordinators. Steps are then followed to complete checks on those who would like to volunteer, which includes an enhanced DBS check.

Once these checks have been reviewed and we find an applicant is eligible to volunteer with us, we then hold an interview. Following this, Jigsaw4u’s Volunteer Coordinators fully assess the applicant’s ability to Volunteer with us.

If the applicant is successful, and they accept the offer to volunteer with us, we then provide specialist training led by our Volunteer Coordinators which should equip Volunteers with the knowledge needed to start volunteering. This is then followed up with support by our Volunteers whenever they need it.

What our Volunteers have had to say about working with us

I wasn’t expecting to get involved so much as I’m quite a reserved person... In fact, it allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and relax which is something I usually find somewhat difficult.

I thought that the volunteer training was well planned, well executed and clearly presented

Jigsaw4u are very respectful of the time that we spend as volunteers.

It can be difficult when trying to support victims of domestic abuse. But it is really satisfying when you work really hard with someone and you see the results. I really enjoy that!
