Helping parents with experience of child-to-parent abuse

Jigsaw4u Specialist Support Practitioners provide regular 9-week parenting groups for parents/carers who are experiencing any form of abusive or threatening behaviours from their child. The group aims to support parents who feel like they are losing control and want to handle conflict better, supporting them to make changes.

Quotes from Parents and Carers

I was able to come away from the course with lots of positive changes in my house, things that I really thought my child would try to defy me on, but the subtle changes, body language, chosen words and consistency made those differences that we have been longing for. I am thankful to Jigsaw4u for their continued support, advice and compassion. It has been invaluable to me and my family.

Now I have hope which I didn’t have before attending this group. The information has been priceless and I’ve seen my situation in a different light. I can now stand my ground and put in consequences. My son listens better and things don’t escalate in the same way. We now have conversations instead of outbursts.

Who’s In Charge? was not only about gaining control, it was also about self-care, self-awareness and highlighting the very fact that without changes in ourselves we cannot make those crucial changes in the home.

The group setting took away the focus from my personal situation to addressing a problem facing a group of parents. This also allowed me to stop blaming myself. These were people from different walks of life, ages and family structures. Yet we shared similar struggles. It made me realise that there was not one cause. That cause was not me. I was part of the solution. I had the power to change the dynamics in my house. It transformed me from being the victim, that called the abuse helpline months ago, to the strong, authoritative figure who holds the power in my home.
