Finding Freedom Wins at the BSIFF24 Gala as their Youth Empowerment Film of the Year!
‘Finding Freedom: overcoming criminal exploitation with Jigsaw4u’ was one of 300 Charity Films entered into BSIFF24 alongside other notable film submissions made up of; feature films, shorts, documentaries, animations and micro-shorts from over 120 countries.
Finding Freedom is a mini-documentary produced in partnership with Toy Soldier Films. It was released earlier this year and explores the journey of a vulnerable young person who, with the support of Jigsaw4u, sought an escape from criminal exploitation.
Jigsaw4u’s film won the Charity Film ‘Youth Empowerment’ category, and was selected by the Grand Jury to be the winner at their red-carpet gala awards ceremony at Curzon, Soho, on Friday 8th November. Our Partnerships Manager, Macklin Doherty, and Toy Soldier Films’ Managing Director, William Cammegh, attended the gala to accept the Award on behalf of Jigsaw4u.
“It was an amazing feeling to have been recognised as a Winner at BSIFF24’s gala event and to accept the Award with one of the filmmakers from Toy Soldier Films. The film covers a topic that has had a lot of coverage over the years, but we are happy that this film spreads further awareness of this complex challenge and its impact on young people in South West London and beyond. I am incredibly honoured and proud to be collecting this Award on behalf of Jigsaw4u tonight.”
Macklin Doherty, Partnerships Manager at Jigsaw4u
The film took 18 months to complete, with Toy Soldier Films volunteering over 250 hours of their own time, even travelling to Brighton to capture footage. We commend their team for respectfully telling the story of one of our vulnerable young people and their care when engaging with our other children, young people and families. We also wish to congratulate them for this well-deserved win and the success of another film they were involved with on the same evening, Uhuru, which is yet to be released.
Finding Freedom to be shown at London’s Iconic Piccadilly Lights
As Finding Freedom is one of the winners, the film will be featured on Europe’s biggest screen, London’s Piccadilly Lights on 14th November 2024 at 11am. We are excited to be attending and hope that some of Jigsaw4u’s supporters and those inspired by our work, can join us on the day! Jigsaw4u will also be looking to capture some footage for social media off of the back of the screening to raise awareness of the film and criminal exploitation in the UK. If you’re interested, please keep an eye out for our socials in the coming weeks to learn more!
